Key Applications

EGDMP is a difunctional mercaptopropionate / dithiol monomer used in polymer crosslinking, UV-curable systems and epoxy curing formulations.

  • Thiol-Ene UV Curing:The two thiol groups can react with suitable alkene and acrylate-functional materials through thiol-ene chemistry. EGDMP can therefore be used as a reactive thiol component in UV-curable coatings, inks, adhesives and specialty photopolymer formulations.

  • Epoxy Curing & Adhesives:EGDMP can function as a difunctional polythiol component in epoxy formulations. Patent literature describes ethylene glycol bis(3-mercaptopropionate) in low-temperature and structural epoxy adhesive systems in combination with suitable curing accelerators.

  • Crosslinking & Polymer Modification:As a difunctional thiol, EGDMP can be used to adjust polymer network structure and crosslink density in coatings, sealants, inks and adhesive formulations.

  • 3D Printing & Photopolymer Research:GDMP has been specifically disclosed as a thiol monomer in thiol-ene printable resin formulations for additive manufacturing. Final print speed, mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy depend on the complete resin formulation.

Packaging & Storage Packaging: Commercial packaging selected according to order quantity, specification and transportation requirements.
Storage: Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place. Protect from air, moisture, heat and strong oxidizing agents. Reference laboratory products recommend cool, dark storage and inert-gas protection.

Industrial Applications of EGDMP

Thiol-Ene UV Curing EGDMP provides two reactive thiol groups for thiol-ene polymerization with suitable unsaturated monomers. Thiol-ene networks are known for relatively low sensitivity to oxygen inhibition and comparatively low polymerization shrinkage stress, making this chemistry attractive for coatings, adhesives and photopolymer systems.
Epoxy Adhesives & Curing Ethylene glycol bis(3-mercaptopropionate) is used as a difunctional polythiol in epoxy compositions. Patent literature includes its use in low-temperature fast-curing and structural adhesive systems together with suitable epoxy resins and accelerators.
Coatings, Inks & Sealants As a reactive dithiol crosslinker, EGDMP can be incorporated into coating, ink, sealant and adhesive formulations where thiol reactivity is used to build or modify polymer networks.
3D Printing & Photopolymers GDMP has been explicitly identified as a thiol component in patented thiol-ene printable resin systems for 3D printing. It can therefore be considered for specialty photopolymer and additive-manufacturing formulation development, subject to formulation testing.

Frequently Formulated Together

PETMP A four-functional mercaptopropionate used when higher thiol functionality and crosslink density are required. It is the most natural product comparison with difunctional EGDMP.
TMPTA A multifunctional acrylate monomer widely used in UV-curable systems and relevant to thiol-containing formulation development.
TPGDA A difunctional acrylate commonly used in UV-curable coatings, inks and adhesives and a useful related product for thiol/acrylate formulation development.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EGDMP? EGDMP is Ethylene Glycol Bis(3-mercaptopropionate), CAS 22504-50-3. It is a difunctional mercaptopropionate containing two reactive thiol groups and is used as a crosslinking and curing component in polymer formulations.
Can EGDMP reduce oxygen inhibition in UV curing? EGDMP can participate in thiol-ene polymerization. Thiol-ene chemistry is generally less sensitive to oxygen inhibition than conventional acrylate radical polymerization. However, actual surface cure depends on the complete formulation, including the ene component, photoinitiator, light source and functional-group ratio.
Can EGDMP be used as an epoxy curing agent? Yes, as a polythiol curing component. Patent literature identifies ethylene glycol bis(3-mercaptopropionate) in epoxy adhesive and low-temperature curing compositions. Cure speed and temperature depend on the epoxy resin, accelerator and formulation design.
What is the difference between EGDMP and PETMP? EGDMP is difunctional with two thiol groups, while PETMP contains four thiol groups. The difference in functionality affects crosslink density, network structure and final material properties, so the preferred product depends on the formulation target.
Can EGDMP be used in 3D printing resins? Yes, GDMP has been specifically disclosed as a thiol monomer in patented thiol-ene printable resin systems. Its suitability for a particular LCD, DLP or inkjet formulation should be confirmed through formulation and curing tests.
Can Royalchem provide COA and SDS? Yes. Batch-specific COA, SDS and specification confirmation can be provided for commercial supply. Contact Royalchem to confirm the latest specification, available quantity, packaging and shipping requirements.
