Industrial Applications of (Z)-2-Butene-1,4-Diol

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) Synthesis The primary global application. cis-Butenediol undergoes Diels-Alder cycloaddition in the industrial oxazole route to construct the pyridine ring for Pyridoxine HCl. China produces over 80% of global Vitamin B6, and high-purity BED (≥99%, ≥97% cis) is a critical starting material for major VB6 producers including DSM, Tianxin, Xinfa, Huazhong, and NHU.
Pharmaceutical Intermediates Chiral building block for benzoxazinyl-oxazolidinone antibacterial agents; precursor for AMF-26 (antitumor, Golgi inhibition); antiviral agent Oxetanocin A synthesis; reference standard impurity for Gadobutrol (MRI contrast agent) quality control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CAS 6117-80-2 and CAS 110-64-5? CAS 6117-80-2 is the (Z)-isomer (cis) with ≥97% cis content — the preferred grade for Vitamin B6 synthesis and pharmaceutical use. CAS 110-64-5 is the cis/trans mixture. The cis isomer is more reactive in Diels-Alder reactions. Royalchem supplies CAS 6117-80-2 grade.
