| Storage & Handling | Non-flammable, but a high-concentration leak displaces oxygen and can cause asphyxiation. Keep cylinders upright and secured with valve protection in place, in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat and direct sunlight. Use a regulator rated for the cylinder pressure with backflow prevention; test oxygen levels before entering potentially oxygen-deficient areas. |

| Is krypton flammable or toxic? | No. It is non-flammable, chemically inert and non-toxic, but it is a compressed gas (UN 1056, Class 2.2): cylinders may rupture if heated, and a large leak can cause oxygen-deficiency asphyxiation, so ventilate and follow high-pressure gas handling rules. |
| Krypton or xenon — which should I use? | Xenon is heavier with a lower ionization energy and is preferred for high-end propulsion and advanced etch; krypton is cheaper and is the standard choice for insulating glass, KrF excimer lasers and lighting, and a cost alternative for Hall thrusters.
