Salol serves dual functions as a stabilizer and a synthesis intermediate:

• Polymer Industry (UV Absorber):
  Acts as an efficient UV stabilizer for plastics (PVC, Cellulosic esters) and lacquers. It absorbs UV radiation (290-325 nm) and dissipates it as harmless heat, preventing yellowing and embrittlement.

• Pharmaceuticals & Synthesis:
  - A vital intermediate for synthesizing Xanthone and other API derivatives.
  - Historically used as an internal antiseptic and analgesic.

• Personal Care:
  Used in sunscreen formulations and fragrances due to its pleasant balsamic odor.
