Key Applications

3,5-Dichlorobenzoyl Chloride is a reactive aromatic acyl chloride used primarily as an intermediate in crop-protection chemistry.

  • Propyzamide (Pronamide) Intermediate:A documented key acyl chloride precursor for the synthesis of Propyzamide (CAS 23950-58-5), formed through reaction with the corresponding propargylamine intermediate.

  • Other Herbicide Intermediates:3,5-DCBC has also been reported as an intermediate in synthetic routes associated with herbicides including Oxaziclomefone and Tridiphane.

  • Organic Synthesis:Used as an acylating building block for introducing the 3,5-dichlorobenzoyl group into amides, esters and other specialty organic molecules.

Packaging & Storage Packaging: Drum or customized industrial packaging according to order requirements.
Storage: Keep tightly sealed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place. Protect from moisture and store under an inert atmosphere where required by the SDS.

Industrial Applications of 3,5-Dichlorobenzoyl Chloride

Propyzamide (Pronamide) The best-documented commercial application of 3,5-DCBC is as an acyl chloride intermediate for Propyzamide (Pronamide). Published synthetic processes react 3,5-dichlorobenzoyl chloride with a substituted propargylamine to form the corresponding 3,5-dichlorobenzamide herbicide.
Other Crop-Protection Chemistry Process literature also identifies 3,5-dichlorobenzoyl chloride as an intermediate associated with the synthesis of Oxaziclomefone and Tridiphane, supporting its broader role in agrochemical intermediate supply.
Specialty Organic Synthesis As an aromatic acid chloride, 3,5-DCBC is a useful building block for introducing a 3,5-dichlorobenzoyl group into amides and other specialty molecules in process development and organic synthesis.

Packaging, Storage & Shipping

Packaging Industrial drum or customized packaging according to quantity, transport requirements and container compatibility.
Storage Moisture sensitive. Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with water and incompatible materials. Follow the current SDS for recommended temperature and inert-atmosphere requirements.
Trade Support COA, SDS, specification confirmation and international logistics coordination are available for commercial orders.
Transport Class UN 3261, Class 8 — Corrosive. Final packing group, labeling and transport requirements should be confirmed against the SDS applicable to the actual shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 3,5-Dichlorobenzoyl Chloride mainly used for? Its best-documented industrial application is as an intermediate for Propyzamide (Pronamide). It is also reported in agrochemical synthesis routes involving Oxaziclomefone and Tridiphane and is used more generally as a 3,5-dichlorobenzoyl acylating building block.
Is 3,5-DCBC the same as 3,5-Dichlorobenzoic Acid? No. 3,5-Dichlorobenzoic acid is the corresponding carboxylic acid, while 3,5-Dichlorobenzoyl Chloride is its reactive acid-chloride derivative. Conversion of the acid to the acid chloride is a commonly reported step in agrochemical synthesis.
Why can 3,5-DCBC appear as either a solid or liquid? Its reported melting point is close to room temperature, approximately 24–28°C. Depending on ambient and storage temperature, the product may therefore appear as a solid, lump or clear liquid without indicating a change in chemical identity.
Why is isomer control important? Agrochemical synthesis depends on the correct 3,5-dichloro substitution pattern. Controlling related chlorobenzoyl chloride isomers and residual precursor helps customers maintain downstream reaction consistency and finished-product impurity profiles.
Can Royalchem provide COA and SDS? Yes. Batch-specific COA and SDS can be provided for commercial supply. Contact Royalchem before ordering to confirm the latest specification, packaging, available quantity and shipping requirements.
