| PDCPD / RIM | High-purity DCPD is the monomer for polydicyclopentadiene (PDCPD). Metathesis catalysts initiate rapid polymerization after the components are mixed and injected into a mold. The low initial viscosity makes the technology particularly suitable for large, complex and relatively thin-walled molded components. |
| Unsaturated Polyester Resins | DCPD is a well-established raw material for DCPD-modified UPR systems. These thermosetting resins are used in composites and FRP applications and represent an important industrial outlet for DCPD. |
| Hydrocarbon Resins | DCPD is used in the manufacture of hydrocarbon resins and modified resin systems for applications including adhesives, coatings, paints, varnishes and related formulations. |

| What is DCPD mainly used for? | Major industrial applications include PDCPD reaction injection molding, unsaturated polyester resins, hydrocarbon resins and EPDM. DCPD is also used as a cyclopentadiene source for cyclic olefin and fine-chemical synthesis. |
| Why can DCPD be either solid or liquid? | DCPD has a melting point close to 32–33 °C. It may therefore appear as a crystalline solid below this temperature and as a clear liquid at warmer temperatures. This physical phase change is normal. |
| Why is high-purity DCPD important for PDCPD/RIM? | PDCPD polymerization uses highly active metathesis catalysts, and certain co-dimers, oligomers, water and other impurities may affect catalyst activity and polymerization behavior. High-purity DCPD is therefore generally preferred for RIM applications, while the exact impurity limits depend on the catalyst and process. |
| Is DCPD a direct monomer for COC/COP optical resins? | DCPD is better described as an upstream cyclic-olefin feedstock rather than a universal direct monomer for COC/COP. DCPD can be converted to cyclopentadiene and downstream norbornene-type intermediates, and DCPD-derived chemistry is used in specialty cyclic-olefin and optical-material value chains. |
| Does all commercial DCPD contain BHT? | No. Some commercial and laboratory grades are stabilized with BHT or other inhibitors, but this should not be assumed for every DCPD grade. Buyers should confirm stabilizer type and concentration from the supplier specification, COA or SDS. |
